What is a Lightning Protection System?

A Lightning Protection System is a network of components designed to safely intercept, conduct, and disperse lightning energy into the ground, helping protect buildings, equipment, and occupants from lightning-related damage. Rather than preventing lightning from striking, the system provides a controlled path that safely carries the electrical current away from the structure.

How Protection Works

Lightning rods do not attract lightning. Instead, they provide a controlled, low-resistance path that safely carries the tremendous electrical energy into the ground.

Without this engineered path, lightning may travel through wood framing, electrical wiring, or structural steel, resulting in fire, equipment damage, and structural failure.

The Process

Step 1: Strike Capture

Lightning strikes the air terminal, initiating the controlled energy transfer.

Step 2: Conduction

Energy flows through heavy-duty copper or aluminum conductors to the ground.

Step 3: Grounding

Energy reaches the grounding system, safely dissipating into the earth.

Step 4: Dissipation

Energy is safely dispersed into the earth, protecting your structure.
